About the compound
Bacteriostatic Water (10ml) — Peptide Reconstitution
Bacteriostatic Water (BAC Water) is a sterile water for injection containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. It is the standard reconstitution solvent for lyophilised research peptides, selected for its ability to inhibit bacterial growth in multi-use vials — unlike sterile water for injection (SWFI), which provides no bacteriostatic protection once the vial seal is broken.
Role in Research Peptide Reconstitution
Lyophilised peptides require reconstitution with an appropriate aqueous solvent before use in in vitro or in vivo research protocols. Bacteriostatic Water is the preferred choice for most research peptides due to:
- Multi-use stability: The 0.9% benzyl alcohol preservative inhibits microbial growth, allowing the reconstituted solution to be used across multiple withdrawal events from the same vial — essential for extended experimental protocols
- pH compatibility: BAC Water’s near-neutral pH (typically 4.5-7.0) is compatible with most peptide structures, minimising hydrolysis and aggregation risks during storage
- USP-grade standards: Produced to United States Pharmacopoeia standards for sterility, endotoxin, and particulate matter
- Peptide stability: Benzyl alcohol has mild stabilising effects on peptide secondary structure in solution, reducing aggregation compared to plain sterile water in some formulations
Reconstitution Guidelines for Research Use
Standard practice for peptide reconstitution involves slowly injecting BAC Water down the side of the lyophilised peptide vial to avoid foaming, gently swirling (not shaking) until fully dissolved, and storing the reconstituted solution at 2-8°C. Reconstituted peptides should be used within 28 days when stored with bacteriostatic water. All reconstitution procedures should be performed under aseptic conditions appropriate to the research protocol.
